This year Australian researchers conducted a three arm, single blind, randomised, controlled, multi-site trial comparing accelerated bilateral theta-burst stimulation (TBS) applied at 80 % or 120 % of the resting motor threshold and left unilateral 10 Hz rTMS for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression (TRD). The results were published in the Brain Stimulation journal .*
The stusy provides evidence that accelerated bilateral TBS is safe and effective in the treatment of TRD as classical stimulation protocols do. This unique research is the largest in this field to date. 300 patients were recruited. 200 of them underwent the prescribed course of theta-burst stimulation on the Neuro-MS/D transcranial magnetic stimulator!
