From Antarctica to Space: Neurosoft in Human Performance Research

03.11.2026

Neurosoft’s NS-Psychotest software is being used in the 71st Russian Antarctic Expedition as part of a large-scale research programme investigating how prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures, isolation and physical stress affects human physiology and cognitive performance. The research focuses in particular on potential changes in mental performance following an extended stay in Antarctica.

Participants complete a series of psychological tests using NS-Psychotest while simultaneously exercising on a bicycle ergometer. Assessments are conducted before and after their extended Antarctic stay, with approximately 30–40 expedition members taking part each year. This approach enables researchers to assess attention, reaction speed and the ability to maintain cognitive performance under physical load. The programme brings together leading Russian scientific and medical research institutions, including a major national research centre specialising in biomedical and space medicine. At an inland Antarctic research station, scientists also examine how low atmospheric pressure and reduced oxygen levels affect the human body.

Antarctic wintering provides a valuable model for space medicine, allowing researchers to study human adaptation to prolonged isolation and extreme conditions. The findings may help improve methods for assessing crew performance on future long-duration space missions. We are proud that NS-Psychotest is contributing to research of this level, demonstrating the potential of Neurosoft’s technology beyond clinical applications and its value in scientific projects exploring human capabilities and adaptation to extreme environments.
