AudiologyNOW! 2013: New Discoveries, New Knowledge, New Success
The American Academy of Audiology's annual meeting, AudiologyNOW!, has finished on the 6th of April in Anaheim, USA. It was a particular meeting of the AAA 25th anniversary.
The American Academy of Audiology was founded in January of 1988, twenty-five years ago, when a group of audiology leaders met to establish an independent national organization run by and for audiologists, and they were the first who did it. This idea met with great enthusiasm among audiologists from all over the world, and now thousands people from different countries are interested in providing quality hearing care services through professional development, education, research, and increased public awareness of hearing and balance disorders.
This year AudiologyNOW! attracted attention of thousands specialists. Hundreds of lectures and presentations dedicated to the most interesting questions of modern audiology were brought to the attention of the AAA audience.
Among topics discussed were the following ones:
- audiological screening
- vestibular pathologies and its diagnostics using different methods including VEMP technique
- cochlear implantation.
It was pleasant for us to find out that new methods of VEMP acquisition implemented in Neuro-Audio (version 2010) were at the peak of audiologist’s attention. You can find the detailed description of VEMP technique in VEMP.pdf booklet. VEMP.pdf (759 KB).
One of the most interesting discoveries for us was the fact that intraoperative monitoring (IOM) in USA is performed by audiologists. Moreover, American audiologists form the main part of specialists who use IOM in USA. They use IOM not only for auditory EP acquisition during surgeries, but also during surgeries which are not connected with hearing, for example, spinal surgeries. This topic was one of the main discussed on the congress.
The event passed successfully. We congratulate all the participants of this conference and hope that everyone who attended this event make an important step forward in audiology.
